The Lenovo W520 is Lenovo’s upgrade to the W510 mobile workstation notebook. This 15.6-inch notebook is powered by up to an Intel Core i7-2920XM processor and equipped with up to a discrete NVIDIA Quadro 2000M GPU, switchable to Intel HD integrated graphics. Similar to last year’s model, the full HD (FHD) displays within the 1920 x 1080 resolution designs include a 95% color gamut as well as a huey PRO color calibration system application. At the time of writing this review Lenovo has not yet announced if it will have a forthcoming multi-touch screen alternative like last year or not.

What You Need to Know About Lenovo W520

The Lenovo W520 workstations have invariably been considered to be top-of-the-line, up-to-date systems when it comes to performance, FHD display, build quality, battery and power usage, and carry a host of features such as the Fingerprint Reader, nice upgrade alternatives, as well as a great port selection. The Lenovo W520 workstation is predicted to live up to all those who have high ThinkPad specifications and expectations.

From the looks of computer, the outer build of the Lenovo W520 is about the same as the earlier generation workstation model, the W510. Lenovo stuck with the same ultra sturdy hinges, still evenly built width-wise due to a build fix to the older models. The hinge and display cover of Lenovo W520 are extremely well-built that it requires a good amount of force to even lean the screen back or forward (which is reassuring of course). The Lenovo W520 palm rest and keyboard are both quite challenging as well-showing no flex when typing regularly and only a minimal amount of flex when trying to press down extremely hard.

The Lenovo W520 workstation most definitely lives up to its ThinkPad name and workstation standards. It provides great all-over performance with its quad-core i7 processor, NVIDIA Quadro 2000M graphics, and 8GB DDR3 RAM. For all those in need of a powerful workstation, the Lenovo W520 system should really be on the short list of their options.
